In August, Scioto Country Club will celebrate its centennial by hosting its sixth major championship, and first since 1986, as the U.S. Senior Open returns to this famed course. A central Ohio classic, it is one of only four courses in the U.S. to host five different championships.
Originally designed by Donald Ross in 1916, Scioto has undergone several makeovers, including one in 2008 by Michael Hurdzan and Jack Nicklaus to return the course to its original Ross design. Despite Scioto’s rich heritage hosting championships, most golfers know Scioto as the course where a young Jack Nicklaus learned to golf – honing his game under the watchful eye of legendary teaching professional, Jack Grout.
In its history, the Club has been home to four golf professionals (George Sargent, Walker Inman Jr., Grout and Nicklaus), who are all in the PGA Hall of Fame. Perennially ranked among the top courses in the country, Scioto continues to challenge golfers by demanding precise shot-making.
Scioto’s amenities include a spacious 70,000 square-foot clubhouse, an indoor golf practice facility, a comprehensive fitness facility, four swimming pools, eleven tennis courts and four platform tennis courts for the membership and their guests to use.
